Seven Years of Freelance Writing

I remember this day (January 13th) every year - it was on this day, seven years back - in 2003, my first article was published in The Hindu's Metro Plus (Thiruvananthapuram edition) as the main story. Since then, I have written for 66 publications and will touch 67th mark in February 2010. In 2009, I devoted more time for my other interests. In writing, the long-awaited Chicken Soup for the Indian Teenage Soul was published. The anthology has one of my stories - "Grade's Don't Define You." I also sold another personal story to Chicken Soup for the Indian Woman's Soul. I worked on multiple corporate and web content writing projects apart from my regular writing assignments. And more than before, I rejected several of the offered assignments either because they wanted to work for very low rates or the topics weren't of interest to me. For now, I am trying to win assignments from a couple of national publications. And hope I can find time to fulfill my much-...

Also, I look forward to hearing from publishers or editors (can remain anonymous, if you choose to, though I would need to know the details) who were innocent victims of plagiarizers and used the plagiarized content for their magazine, website, book or portals. Mail me with the subject line "Sharing Plagiarism Experiences" at resmi.writer@gmail.com.

True Story: An Indian writer who practices Plagiarism

I started my work blog – the one you are currently reading in April 2007 and I have been using these keywords and profile since then. On October 3, 2009 I was browsing through the net for certain writer related keywords when I found a blog that looked similar to mine. A closer look and I found the blogger & the so-called freelance writer from India had used some of my blog contents – yes, I mean the blog posts. I was familiar with her name as she had mailed me twice earlier asking how to freelance and for contact information of editors / magazines. I never responded. By then, I had closed my doors to free advices as these newbies never bothered to say a 'thank you' for my valuable time. When I announced my writing consultancy service, I sent her a mail with the information. She was also desperately trying to follow me through various social networking sites. I kept rejecting her request every time. I found two of my friends; one (whose interviewed she lifted) and another wr...

Work update - Corporate Writing & Blogging

I have had articles published in technology magazines in the past few months. But, as of now, I am concentrating more on writing corporate content – brochures, web content, newsletters and press releases. I also created content for a part of a website (to be launched in the coming months). Meanwhile, I landed up with an assignment for promoting an event online - which I do through a blog created specifically for the purpose and through online communities. If you are a regular reader, you may remember I used to write about Volvo Ocean Race - http://kochi-volvo.blogspot.com during October-December 2008. It was not an assigned job - it was something I did, because I was interested in knowing about Volvo Ocean Race; excited to meet the participants and the entire team. Since I got the flavor of promoting an event online, I am open to blogging opportunities to promote events or products or even businesses online. If you are looking for content writer for your website, portal or business or...

Travelogues and Destination Features

Travelling is a passion I tightly hold on since my childhood and wish to, in the years to come. As a kid, I travelled with my parents and brother and post-marriage, I go on a holiday with my husband and often my parents or brother also accompanies us in the trip. In the recent years, I have had the opportunity to visit “offbeat places” in leading tourist destinations – and most of these have been in Nilgiris (Ooty and around); Goa; Kodaikanal and Munnar. I have spent over 50 days in Kodaikanal (since 1996), over 20 days in Munnar (since 1997) and around 20 days in Ooty (since 1991). Occasionally, I also take solo trips to local places in Kochi. During such tours, I have come across interesting people and stories. I dig out stories common men generally avoid or overlook. I am looking for selling some of these interesting travelogues and also features on destinations. I also have photos to accompany most of my trips. Editors interested in discussing travelogues or destination features, d...
