Fort Kochi , is known as a natural harbor and place of historical importance. A stroll along the beach and watching the fishermen working with the Chinese fishing net as well as the ships entering the Kochi from the Arabian Sea is a sight to behold. Chinese fishing net - The Chinese fishing net was erected by Chinese traders at the area between 1350 and 1450 AD. It is made of teak and bamboo poles. St. Francis Church - Vasco da Gama was buried in St. Francis Church at Fort Kochi in 1524. Later, his remains were removed and taken to Portugal. Santa Cruz Basilica - Originally built by the Portuguese in 1558, it was later demolished and in its place, a new building appeared in 1887. Vasco House - One of the oldest Portuguese houses in Fort Kochi, Vasco House is believed to have been the residence of Vasco D Gama. Vasco House, now functions as a home stay.
