Author Interview : Nikesh Rathi ; Book - Somewhere@Nowhere

I read Somewhere@nowhere last month - a different kind of a book, especially if you like simple language and travel experience in the form of a story. Personally, I liked the travel narration part. Nikesh Rathi's (author, Somewhere@Nowhere ) interview appeared online in late  February. Since then, it remains as one of the most read stories in the portal. Check out for yourself! http://www.techgoss.com/Story/464S12-How-Somewhere-@-Nowhere-was-written.aspx

Do you/have you worked in IT industry? Have a tech news lead?

I am looking to hear from IT professionals or those in BPO/Telecom sectors, who has a story to share about themselves or have news leads related to IT industry. It could be about an IT personnel who recently wrote a book, directed a movie, moved out of the IT industry to be a photographer or start a unique portal or service, about a unique IT conference, an IT professional who won an award, or any other, that has some connection with the IT industry. The person needn't be working in the IT sector even now - they could have worked in the industry, probably 4-5 years back too. You can also send story leads / news leads of what's going on at your office / work premises - something interesting.  Most importantly, if you are sharing inside information, you can even remain anonymous. Email me at resmi.writer@gmail.com .

Personal and Professional 2010

As we bid goodbye to 2010, I wish all my blog readers, well-wishers and others, a very happy and prosperous New year 2011. The year 2010 was with lots of ups and downs. On the personal front, I lost both my mother-in-law and father-in-law in early 2010.   It was a very hectic year of my husband too with his project on the peak and spending majority of his time at work. I took a long break between February and April, following my in-law’s passing away as it was tough even to concentrate on writing. I haven’t yet taken stock of the number of new publications I wrote for in 2010. Roughly, I would estimate it to be 8 or 10, with the latest being published in a travel trade journal in December 2010. At the same time, I lost my regular market of two years – Delhi Press’s LiveIT as they bid goodbye to the publication in December 2010. I sold seven stories six or seven stories for various titles of Chicken Soup for the Soul and for the first ...

After a break..

I had an unexpected break - especially from posting on my blogs and using my social networking accounts from the last week of October till November end. Towards the end of October, I received a call from my ISP informing, I had 4.5 GB of data transfer for the month of October and I was to pay them above Rs.3,000. I couldn't believe - because I hadn't downloaded so much of data. Since past few months I was paying extra amount. However, I was careful as always and limited to maximum 1 GB of extra usage. The technical team arrived in my place but they couldn't fault with my computer too. I formatted the entire hard disk, and again, I could see the problem - there was extra download happening. The technical team was able to identify from the location from where even 25 MB of files were downloaded in 5 minutes, when I left the PC unused. And at times, 167 MB of files were downloaded in 60-90 minutes. Interestingly, it was from a popular mobile service provider's original web...

Letters to the Editor in ‘The Hindu’ – Handwritten letters

I’ve heard some aspiring writers try to catch editor’s attention by sending ‘Letters to the Editor.’ But, I never attempted writing a letter to the editor till I read about the handwritten letters recently in The Hindu. ‘Writing letters’ (handwritten) is a topic close to my heart and I was involved in writing letters for over a decade. I began writing letters when I was 11. Thanks to my mother, who encouraged me to write letters and have penpals. In 1970’s, she had hundreds of penpals. Though I could never break her record, I had around 75 penpals. I used to take hours and sometimes, weeks to complete a letter. Writing letters of 4-5 pages were common and the longest must have been 12 or 14 pages long (long sheets of paper). Topics discussed varied from trends, my life at home and college and rarely, on attempting to teach a friend, ‘Malayalam.’ I no longer writer handwritten letters, but occasionally I read the old letters, of my penfriends. I still maintain contact with 15 or so ...
